Show H1TS1LE 1ST PAY CITH BUS It is not an easy matter for a city to become defunct as is evidenced In1 the case of Huntsville Since the dls-incorporutlon dls-incorporutlon of tho city tho people havo been called upon to settle all its bills, and the task has not been an easy one That is. It has occasioned occasion-ed somewhat of a drain on the pocket books of tho taxpayers. Besides selling all tho property the city had last fall to apply on th6 outstanding out-standing debts of the busted town, a levy of 20 mills was Imposed and still the debt was not all liquidated. An Indebtedness of about $1250 remained unpaid, and to meet that obligation a tax of 12 mills has been lovied by Judge Howell this year. Add this tax to the special tax of 5 mills recently levied for road purposes, and then tack on the regular taxes, and Huntsville Hunts-ville will have to pay this year 4 per cent on the valuation of all Its taxable taxa-ble property. Since tho disincorporate of tho city, however, the prosecution or tho Hoken Olsen liquor cases have cost about $16,000. which expense Huntsville Hunts-ville has avoided The question with tho Huntsville property owner is whether he made or lost money on the deal. |
