Show Knudsen Says New War Perils U. S. WASHINGTON Defense Director Dir-ector General William S. Knudsen, Knud-sen, declaring that the new German-Russian war increases rather than lessens America's ultimate war danger, this week ordered a sweeping reorganization of the nation's defense agencies to slash red tape and speed armament production pro-duction beyond any place yet attained. at-tained. Warning all Americans not to "sit down and take it easy" because be-cause the dictatorships are finally pitted against one another, Knudsen Knud-sen asserted: These developments abroad do not make our condition any safer, but rather more risky. If Hitler Hit-ler overruns Russia God forbid we can never know where he will strike next.'' Knudsen, in an unheralded move, reorganized the entire office of production management on a "streamlined-for-aclion" basis, establishing es-tablishing 30 new seperate commodity com-modity sections to deal directly with every phase of war industry in procurement and production of defense needs. The new federal defense structure, struc-ture, which Knudsen tactically confessed was decided upon after one year of defense effort because production has failed to reach expectations, ex-pectations, entails major shifting shift-ing of OPM power and is, in effect a revision to war methods of industrial in-dustrial coordination. |
