Show WASHINGTON NfiWS FROM OUR CONGRESSMAN W. K. GRANGER Covering the First Congressional District Hiving returned to Utah to spend this first official Congressional Congres-sional summer recess since ihe outbreak of hostilities in the world, it has been my plea-sure to visit and mingle with the people who have attended the rodeo celebrations cele-brations in Beaver, Fillmore, Price, Enterprise and Manti. I have also spent considerable time in Ogden und Brigham City. I have accepted invitations to attend similar celebrations dur.ng the coming weeks at Logan, Pan-guich, Pan-guich, Hurricane, Richfield and Pa rowan. In fact, it is my hope to visit in every one of the twenty-five twenty-five counties of my district so that I might learn first-hand the thoughts and problems of the good people of my district. Small Arms Available to Civilians The War production board recently re-cently announced that with the exception of 12-gaiige shot guns and revolvers chambered for .32 caliber special cartridges, all small arms will be released for sale to civilian users. This should relieve the critical shortage which has gradually developed among our livestock and sheep men who find it necessary to defend their cattle and sheep from preditory animals by the use of fire arms. Truck and Truck-tractors The news that the surplus property prop-erty board has authorized release of 179 surplus trucks In Utah to dealers for resale exclusively to farmers and farmer's cooperatives holding AAA certificates is welcome wel-come news. . Still greater releases may be expected ex-pected in the future when we realize that for the first six months of 1945 the total production produc-tion of trucks reached 410,094. This compares with 398,951 for the second half of 1944, At the same time it has been announced that military truck-tire expansion projects being retained in the war-production program because be-cause they are nearest completion will add 2,000.000 large, heavy-duty heavy-duty tires to the industry's annual capacity. Discharged Servicemen With every hope that service men will be released in ever increasing in-creasing numbers we are glad to note the OPA has agreed to give special gasoline rations to discharged dis-charged service men for use in attending at-tending to personal affairs and making adjustments to civi'ian life. |
