Show Infantile Paralysis Of The Soul By GEORGE PECK Every American parent lives in dread of the scourge of infantile paralysis, that disease which to date has baffled all the knowledge know-ledge and research of the medical fraternity and which comes like a bolt out of the blue to strike their defensless children. Medical science has progressed fur in learning how to treat the victims of this physical enemy, but up to now has been unable to determin its causes so that barriers can be erected to forestall fore-stall its invasion of American homes. Horrible as are the ravages of infantile paralysis; agonizing as it is for parents to have to stand by helplessly, powerless to do anything any-thing to prevent their children being stricken and perhaps maimed maim-ed for life by this dread disease; there is an infinitely more ap-paling ap-paling disease threatening the well-being of their children. THAT MENACE IS PARALYSIS OF THE SOUL. But, fortunatly, unlike physical infantile paralysis, parents can protect their children against the ravages of infantile paralysis of the soul, because its causes are known ajnd protective measures against it are simple and of easy execution. This infantile paralysis of the soul is running rampant throug-out throug-out the nation. Over 700.000 children child-ren are leading criminal lives. J. Edgar Hoover, respected head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Investiga-tion, is authority for the statement that juvenile delinquency among girls between the ages of 14 and 18 has increased over 60 per cent, since Pearl Harbor. In our newspapers we have been reading and over radios we have been hearing much about "Juvenile "Juven-ile Delinquency." But that is a misnomer; it rightfully should be called "Parental Delinquency." because be-cause responsibility for the growing grow-ing waywardness and crime among our young people can be attributed attribut-ed to parental neglect. It is idle to offer the excuse that the war emergency has made terrific demands de-mands on parental time, because next to duty to God. the obligation of parents is to their children. Infontile paralysis of the soul is so prevalent in this nation because be-cause parents are not equipping their children with the groundwork ground-work upon which character is built A KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. They, among other tilings, are not sending their children to Sun. day School regularly. The Layman's National Committee, Com-mittee, an organization of public-spirited public-spirited citizens of all -faiths, for the past, four years has sponsored National Bible Wek each fall. I; has been responsible for reawakening reawaken-ing millions of Americans to the real values contained between the covers of the world's greatest book. Now. this organization, realizing real-izing the real cause of infantile paralysis of the soul, sponsored National Sunday School Week during April. Every American mother and father fa-ther who backed up the Laymen's Comittee by sending their child- ren to Sunday School on Sunday. April 25th should send them every Sunday. Thus will they protect pro-tect their children against the ravages of that most awful disease Infantile Paralysis of the Soul.j |
