Show Many Sports Events Are Slated For Utah During Centennial Fete C. L. Pocock, head of the public relations department at Utah State Agricultural college and chairman of the Logan central celebrations committee with 'Secretary M. R. Hovey of the Logan chamber of commerce, attended the special meeting of the sports section for the Utah Centennial at Salt Lake City Thursday. Mr. Pocock was named a member of the executive committee of the sports section and Mr. Hovey a member of the general committee. commit-tee. Sixty thousand dollars have been appropriated to help promote various var-ious national sports events in Utah ' during the Centennial year, 1947. I Logan will receive the cross coun-; coun-; try run of the ski events at Summit 1 valley in January, 1947. The other j ski events will take place at Snow I Basin, Ogden Canyon and in the Alta Basin, Salt Lake City. Sum. ! mitt valley affords an excellent ! place for the cross country run ' according to C. D. Reddish, president presi-dent of the Intermountain Ski club. The Mt. Logan Ski club and the Logan Canyon winter recreational council will make a special effort i to get Summit Valley in good con- dition for this even. Work is now underway to get the tow and other equipment ready for skiing at Summit Sum-mit Valley this winter. I The USAC will share in support for a big football game in Logan between the Aggies and some lead-I lead-I ing midwestern or coast football I team. The BYU and the U of U I will also share in support for j I special football games at those I institutions. , Logan will also share In support j for some event at the Rodeo and ; : Cache County fair. One of the j ' i championship women's soft ball I games and men s soft ball gomes j may be played here. Mr. White, manager of the Shamrocks, stated that Wilma Abrams of College Ward was considered one of the i bests soft ball pitches in the U. S. I According to the state program j there will be sonic national sport events going on in some part of Utah durins the entire centennial year. It should bring thousands ; of people into the state. The national na-tional sport events with all the ! public celebrations in the state will ! round out a great year In Utah. Active committees are working ; on the program and more will be added, according to manager Gus P. Backman. |
