Show "(;0 THOU AND DO LIKEWISE" There is a project that 14 important and which does not necessarily come within the term "postwar project." It concerns a problems that has been uppermost upper-most in the minds of many individuals, clubs of various va-rious kinds, city and county officials and church organizations. or-ganizations. It is one of the deepest concernts of parents par-ents and has always been before us. It is the problem of youth. Here in Logan we are all acquainted with the short existance of the Cache Valley Youth council coun-cil that operated, for the young people, the previously conducted U.H.O. center on East Center street, but which was closed according to those in charge, because be-cause of high rental on the building occupied, and because be-cause of lack of another appropriate place. We fear the problem is receiving little if anv at- tention now. But it is one that should be the concern of everyone, and as we have stated before, if there are no places available funds should be provided by the city, county and other groups to purchase one. The youth of our land is our biggest asset. We do not consider our children only in the light of military 1 power but we prefer that they be brought up in an I environment that leads to good citizenship in a peace-! peace-! ful and neighborly community. All parents desire the members of their family to be clean, moral, upright, up-right, useful and successful. That goal cannot be reached through the efforts of the parents alone, but the community groups of all kinds must give their assistance as well. Last Sunday morning the Salt Lake Tribune published pub-lished a picture and a descriptive account of the Teen Klub Kanteen now in operation at Price, Utah We learn from that that the club is open to boys and girls three nights each week Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Games such as pool, ping-pong, Chinese checkers, chess, checkers, shuffleboard and others are provided; there are comfortable chairs, a snack bar and a dancing floor and music boxes; sandwiches are provided by various organizations to be served at the refreshment counter; and it is supervised by a recreation re-creation board. Funds are provided by the city which is supplemented with a membership fee of only $1.00 per person for a five-month's membership. The membership mem-bership fee, amounting to only 20 cents per month ; is assessed to impress the member with the idea that he or she is really a part of the organization and that ; it is of value because he or she is paying their portion. it is therefore a sort of an exclusive club, yet it is ' within reach of everyone. The Price club now has 375 members. The young people who have joined the Teen Klub Kanteen have done so because of the social activities provided and have perhaps not considered the hopes of hose who have sponsored it; but there can be no doubt but what each member will be impressed with the line, clean atmosphere and environment of the place; they will have a broader social acquaintance and will become better citizens. We would like to see such a place made available here in Logan. The city and the county is out of debt, according to the officials, of-ficials, and we can see no reason why a fund for the purpose of present day youth needs could not be used now and not build up a large fund for post-war projects pro-jects only. The teen agers are as important as the returning soldier and therefore they should not be overlooked. |
