Show CHRISTMAS The cloud of war rests like a dark shadow over our land. But let us turn away from the somber picture pic-ture to the brightness of Christmas day, and forget our fears and sorrows. The world was turned upside down by the earning of Jesus. The vast Roman empire which covered such parts of the earth as were then known, had to yield before the power of the Christmas spirit. So lf?s faith will go on and on, winning the evil natures of men. Christmas should fill the heart with hope and joy, oven in dark days. The merry laughter of children, as their eyes pop out when they see a sparkling and brilliant tree, should make us all feel young again. To, and Ma and Grandpa, and Grandma can well dance around the tree. ; : ; - ': Christmas is a glorious occasion, because it sets itself against the general selfishness of mankind. In this life of struggle and' competition, with people pushing for their own advancement and pleasure, Christmas tells us to spread happiness. ' ! People get more pleasure from giving others nice ' presents that satisfy needs and longings, than they ever do in spending money on their own pleasures. If only the Christmas spirit could last over a longer period, and convince people that they should keep giving, particularly to those who need their generosity, generos-ity, the life so devoted to kindness would be far happier. The Christmas picture is one of the most beautiful things in life. The green 'tree which tells of the shimmering shim-mering forest from which it came, the bright lights which tell us how Christ came to lighten our darkness, dark-ness, the carols in the churches and on the streets, set forth the happiness which Jesus tried to bring to the world. These are foretastes of a celestial life wdiere there shall be no more war, and sorrow and sighing shall be done away. |
