Show Plans Underway For Ogden Stock Show OGDEN The twenty-third annual an-nual Ogden livestock show, October 31 to November 6, will operate again as the pivot point of the big western fall circuit, and will feature fea-ture strong entries of breed and fat animals and the largest assemblage as-semblage of commercial cattle in its history. The prime objective of the Ogden Og-den show has always been to serve the interests of intermoun-tain intermoun-tain country stock men, and this policy will be enhanced this year by expansions in the feeder cattle cat-tle and range bull divisions. More range cattlemen of the in-termountain in-termountain country are each year looking to the Ogden show as the ideal place to exhibit and sell their feeder cattle. Last yrvir more than 30 buyers took home some 2500 feeders, purchased either eith-er from show entries or from the large offering placed on the commercial com-mercial market that week. The buyers were well pleased with the quality and thrift expressed in the cattle and have served notice they will be back this year. Although the feeder cattle market mar-ket during the past few weeks has been slow, the condition will change rapidly, and by the first of November most feedlot operators will have moved their fat cattle to markets and will be looking around for replacement feeder stock. Entries in the carlot feeder cattle cat-tle division of the coming Ogden show will close October 27, and stock show officials will be governed govern-ed by this ruling in the allotment of pens and in advertising the offering of-fering which will be available to buyers. All feeder cattle must be in the stockyards pens by noon of Tuesday, Tues-day, November 4. Judging will take place the following day and' the entries then sold through the auction November 6, starting at nine a.m. The question of what ' effect the government price-fixing . program will have on cattle prices was answered an-swered by U. S. Price Administrator Adminis-trator Leon Henderson in a letter let-ter to Nebraska stockmen. He said in part: "Following our recent meeting with representatives of the livestock live-stock producers, I want to assure you again that the step which we have taken in this office to check speculative increase in hide prices should not be taken as indicating that we are contemplating action on the livestock prices or the price of meat ... I could be very disturbed if anticipation' of such a' step should handicap the stocking stock-ing of feeders during the coming com-ing year, and I would like livestock live-stock producers to know that I keenly appreciate the importance of maintaining a fair margin between be-tween the cost of feeder cattle and the price of finished stock." A total prize purse of $2,000 has been arranged for winners in breed and kind competition among cattle, sheep and swine. Headlining Headlin-ing the special sports- program is the appearance of Henry Armstrong, Arm-strong, former holder of world boxing titles in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight classes, class-es, who will fight an opponent, as yet unnamed, over 10 rounds the night of November 4. Many other programs of interest have been scheduled for the thousands of people who each year take part in or attend the Ogden exposition. |
