Show Patrol Report Submitted To Road Commission The Highway patrol made 597 arrests during January, according accord-ing to the report of Patrol activities ac-tivities for January, submitted to the State Road Commission by R. W. Groo, Patrol superintendent. superinten-dent. This compares with 821 ar. rests during January of 1940, and 425 arests during December, 1940 Following the usual pattern, speeding topped the list of offenses offen-ses with a total of 227 while 83 tickets' were given for running stop signs. Ninety-eight motorists were ticketed tick-eted -for failure to have drivers' licenses. This neglect on the part of the motoring public is difficult to understand because of the general gen-eral knowledge that any motorist is subject to arrest at any time for failure to have a driver's license. li-cense. Where motorists are involved in-volved in accidents the neglect Is even more serious. During January the patrol also al-so issued 233 warning tickets in continuation of the educational program adopted by the patrol to correct minor traffic infractions by education rather than by arrest ar-rest The public in general has responded very well to the warning warn-ing tickets that have' been issued and the Road Commission Seels that the program has been very successful in making the motorist traffic-conscious, according to W. D. Hammond, Chairman of the Commission. A number of additional patrolmen patrol-men have been assigned to the service during the past few weeks and it is expected that the increased in-creased traffic supervision will go far toward reducing the number num-ber of accidents on the highway. |
