Show Pilot Returns Wellsville Parents Hear Of Son's Safety First Lieutenant Heber Blaine Bankhead of Wellsville, reported missing in action last Thursday by the war department, has returned safely to his base in North Africa, it was learned Monday. Lieutenant Bankhead, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Heber H. Bank-head, Bank-head, was first pilot of a flying fortress missing since May 25. His parents were notified by a war department telegram which read: "Am happy to inform you that the Commanding General, North Africa Area, reports your son, First Lieutenant Heber B. Bankhead, who previously was reported missing miss-ing in action since May 25, is now reported returned to duty." No further details were learned. A letter dated May 23 was received re-ceived the day he was reported missing and told of his participation participa-tion in 15 bombing missions. He has been overseas since February, 1943. |
