Show Off iesal Sees Serious Hay Shortage Predicting that the situation on alfalfa hay for feed during the coming year will be a serious one. Alphonso Christensen, chairman of Cache county AAA committee, advised ad-vised farmers this week to plant oats as a substitute. Mr. Christensen said that oats should be planted on "run out" alfalfa al-falfa land that cannot be planted to corn or barley feed, and before1 the oat crop comes into bloom it should be cut for hay. The value of the hay can be greatly increased, Mr. Christensen added, if planted with Canadian peas at the ratio of Vh bushels of peas to 100 pounds of oats to each acre. If the crop is cut while young it will produce two and sometimes three good crops of hay that is especially valuable feed for horses and cattle and which may be used for milk cows, he advised. |
