Livestock judging honors went to the Box Elder team comprised of Ben Tnanka, Howard Barlow, Emil Eggly, all of Tremonton, while the high point individual in all classes was Nix Johnson of Charleston. High point men in judging of tire various classes of livestock were: Douglas Johnson, Charleston, horses; Ben Tanaka, Tremonton, dairy cattle; Delmar White, Plain City, beef cattle; Nix Johnson, swine; and Spencer Bennion, Salt Lake, sheep. Four-H Clubs Hold Spotlight At 1940 Utah State Fair Four-H Club members from al-! al-! most every county in the state played a prominent part in making the 1940 Utah State Fair successful. suc-cessful. On every hand visitors saw results of 4- Hprojects and achievements. Livestock barns housed numerous dairy and beef Boys who best know their poultry entered from Davis County; they are Dean Maughan and Dale Maughan of Layton. High individual indi-vidual in poultry judging was Dale Maughan. When it came to killing kill-ing and dressing poultry, Gerald Day of Roosevelt walked away with top honors. Best crops judges were Peter Ardshain and Odel Frandson of Price and the best home economics judging team was comprised of Elyss Johnson and Faye Ann Hug-gins Hug-gins of Boxelder County. Highest individual score was won by Miss Huggins. For diversion the Forestry clubs staged a log-sawing contest which 1 was won by Ralph Hafen and Be- cattle, swine, an sheep brought in from far and near to compete com-pete with the state's best. n the arena, on the platform, on the fair grounds, and in hotel asembly rooms, county winners vied for honors. These energetic, well-behaved well-behaved youngsters added life and zest to the spirit of the fair and through their exhibits and handiwork handi-work gave assurance that similar future events will be kept to high standards. One of the most interesting 4-H contests at the fair was the one to decide the best remonstra-tion remonstra-tion teams in the state. Seventy-four Seventy-four boys and girls from 25 counties coun-ties entered. Judges selected Bre- zee Baker and Calvin Weeks of Smithfield as the winners of the agricultural demonstrations and Aletha Erickson and Elma Shields of Lincoln, Tooele County, winners on the distaff side. The winning boys' team will also represent Utah at the national dairy shov man Snow of St. George. Winners of the general sawing contest were Hugh Lamborne and Albert Weston Wes-ton of Laketown. Winners of the agricultural and ohme economics record book a-wards a-wards were Keith Stratford of Oe- at Harrisburg, (Pennsylvania October Oc-tober 12 to 19, by virtue of their victory in a special contest. Gir.' winners in the dariy products try-outs try-outs are Marjorie Shaw and Phyliss Turpin of Sale Lake City. These girls will also attend the Harrisburg Harris-burg show. Competition was unusually keen among girls for the honor of representing rep-resenting the state at the national nat-ional 4-H club congress at Chicago Chi-cago in November. Two contests are open: the style dress revue j and the Kerr Glass canning ex-- ex-- hibit. Miss Carma Heslop of Og- den won the revue and Miss Gayle Stauffer of Providence led all competition in canning. Examining physicians adjudged Miss Lila Lee of Tooele the healthiest health-iest 4-H girl in the state and Reed Whitesides of Layton similar hon- den and Marvon Bingham of Randolph. Ran-dolph.
