Patterson, i today as he appealed to the na-; na-; tion's youth to seriously compare ; the advantages of Army life with i civilian opportunities. ! "The day when food, clothing, ; shelter and small pay was consid-' consid-' ered ample reward is long past," j the Secretary of War declared. "The American soldier of the future will i enjoy every advantage of American ! life." I "We must not shirk the task of ! enforcing the surrender. It cannot be performed without the required amount of military strength. No one should be in the slightest doubt as to our being able and willing to perform it Secretary Patterson said. |
