| Show resolutions whereas it is known that the city council of helper in a regular meeting of said council held at city hall on the I 1 ith div of dc december did consider he lie proposed pio posed contract of the utah power and light company to furnish electric 1 power to the tile city 0 ot t helper wiper for a period of 10 years was unanimously rejected by the said city council and v whereas li A special meeting of said city council was called by the city mayor for the purpose of rectifying a certain error in a franchise and at said special meeting the rejected contract of the utah power and light company with i slight alteration to wit that the city of helper is to try the proposed contract for a period of six months and if at the end of this period the city of helper can furnish light aa cheaply as the utah power and light company has furnished it or for any other reasonable cause th then n the city of helper can declare t the h e contract of no effect which practically ti means that the city of helper has signed a contract with the utah an power and light company for a period of 10 years the said contract was signed sealed and delivered against the thew wi rhe he of two of the city council and a against the i and will of the citizens and tar taxpayers payers there assembled and whereas no prevision was made by the supposed majority of the city council to in any way care for or dispose of the present electric light plant and whereas by reason of executing said contract with the utah power and light company the present electric light plant will wll be entirely abandoned the said m machinery achi and buildings will rem remain ain idle deteriorating in value and become practically tic lly worthless and whereas the city of helper will be placed in jeopardy if the present electric light plant is abandoned because odthe of the connections of the city water works to the electric light ight plant to the detriment and injury to the citizens taxpayers and the city of helper therefore be belt it resolved that we the citizens and taxpayers bf the city of helper in in iss meeting assembled this day of Dc december cember 1916 ile hereby r C nuke make our protest against any such action of the supposed majority of the city council which action deprives the citizens citie ens c n s and taxpayer of their just rights and the result of their action being detrimental ri to the welfare of the city we ha hae e hereby appointed a committee to take whatever leal steps that they may deem necessary to have said contract declared void and to prevent any such further action and further that a copy of this reGo resolution lution be published in the helper times and the news ad J tom fitch henry victor litizzette Litz zette ti ommittee |
