Show HE PLEADS NOT GUILTY. Editor Manti Reporter. -A few days : ago I heard for the first time that I had been guilty of sigringthe petition of Swen 0. Nielson, for the Probate Jadg-skip Jadg-skip of Sanpete county, in violation of the action of the republican conyention held at Jit. Pleasant on the 9th of Jan. last. In reply to the above, I desire to say; that, at no time or place or at all, have Ijfigned any petition documentor in stniment ia writing of any description whatever, recommending or suggesting the appointment of Mr. Nielson, to said position, and any person who says that I have, states that which is nntrne, and I will forfeit and pay to any person, the sum of Sf-iCOO who will produce any inch petition or writing of any description asking urging or recommending Swen 0. NitlBen to said position signed by me Not that 1 have any objection to Mr. Nielsen as a candidate for said position but because I consider that the action of the hereinbefore mentioned republican convention was binding upon me, as I think tit should have been npon every republican in this county, If my name appears upon any petition document or instrument of writing recommending Mr. Nielson for the position of Probate Judge for this county, the same is a base forgery and I will If possible detect and have the forger' punished, and I do hereby invite all good citizens to assist to that end. At the convention above referred to Jonas H. Ericksen Esq. and myself was appoinied a committee to present the action of the convention to Governor Artdur L. Thomas, for his recommendation re-commendation which duty we promptly performed, at our own expense, I aek that yon give this letter publicity in your valuable paper so that the scandal scan-dal mongers who have so industriously circulatedjthis falsehood, may be held up the public soorn and contempt which they deserve. Respectfully, Jacob Johnson. Dated at Spring City, March 22, 1883, |
