Mr. Martin In behalf of tha first Presbyterian church of Manti, asked the privilege of erecting a donble section flag-staff, at such a point as shall seem best to the council and' members of tke church corporation, cor-poration, The preferable position to be between the tree line and the telegraph pole. Councilor Lnke moved that th9 petition peti-tion be granted, and that the flag pole be placed anywhere that the petitioners may desire, between the line of trees and the line of telegraph poles. Carried. Car-ried. Mr. Jessen petitioned for a free hotel license- ' Councilor Cox moved that the petition be granted for a period of three months. Carried, ' The next business was the reports of city officers and the recorder reported that Dr. Hosford had filed his bonds as quarantine physician of Mantl and that the same were approved by the mayor-Wintch mayor-Wintch proposed to accept report. Carried. Car-ried. . OTHER REPORTS. Councilor Lake In behalf of select committee appointed to investigate the amount of damage done Mr. Maylett by city in clearing gravel out of streets, reported that they had visited the place and recommended that $1.00 be appropriated appro-priated to Mr. Maylett. Bessey moved to accept report and adopt recommendation. Carried. ) MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS. Luke moved that the petition of Mr. Larson, asking to be allowed to erect an abutment to protect his property and that of the city against high water, which was granted at last meeting, be reconsidered. Carried- The petition as presented merely asked for the privilige of building said abutment, and with that nnderstaudlng the council granted petition, but it seems that Mr. Larson wanted pay for dol 'g the workjaftViHo price h"d been made Fence the reconsideration. Luke moved that the matter be referred refer-red to Councilor Anderson to allow Mr. Larson a reasonable amount to open sidewalks. ' Councilor Reid in behalf of the auditing audit-ing committee reported that the committee com-mittee had met but not completed the' work and asked for further tim, which was en motion granted. CLAIMS. The claim of Hall and Erickson for services etc. amounting to $8.50, was allowed. al-lowed. The claim of special committee for various services amounting to $1.59 was allowed. The claim of water works committee for servtces, etc. amounting to $20.85, was allowed. The mayor stated that the city , hall grounds needed cleaning np that the scrapers were scattered all over the yard and suggested that something be done, Luke" moved that the supervisor be instructed to clear up the lot and notify the school teachers to warn the children against littering np the yard and to notify them not to dump ashes near the rear entry.
