Show The Creek ,tory nf the First Woman. The fir:;t wotrian created, according to heathen Gi'r.k mythology, was Pandora. She was made cf clay by Vulcan, at the request of Jul iter, who wished to punish the impiety of Prometheus by giving him a wife. Yv hen this woman of clay-hail clay-hail received life r.ll tho gods vied making mak-ing her presents. Venus gave her beauty; the Graces rave her tbe power of captivating; Apollo taught her music, Mercury instructed her in eloquence, and Minerva gave her the most splendid ornaments. From these presents, received re-ceived from the gods, the woman was called Pandora, which intimates that she had received every necessary gift. Prometheus was too artful to marry this woman and could not be captivated by her charms, but his brother, Epi-metheus, Epi-metheus, who was not so prudent, married mar-ried her instead, and upon opening a box which she presented to him there issued is-sued from it a multitude of evils, which dispersed themselves over the world and still continue to afflict the human race.
