Show utah products theme of high school contest utah manufacturers ass association ocia tion this week announced a special contest for high school students to promote a wider interest in utah made products the project offers several special prizes for essays adjudged best in the statewide state wide competition the feature prizes are the celebrated utah products surprise packages each containing several dozen small articles of utah man manufacture in ad addition the first place winner will receive a U S savings bond and the writer of the second place essay will receive c a 2500 r iho bond the essays may be from to words in length they must be completed and mailed t to th the utah manufacturers association 2 kearns building in salt lake city by november 5 1949 the tha general of the contest is utah made products and the contestants may develop any theme relating to the general subject among themes suggested by the sponsors are utah products in our hometown Home town stores the variety and excellence of utah products some utah brands and labels worth knowing the importance of home industry boosting utah and utah products the essay contest will serve a double purpose said david H thomas chairman of the UMA utah products committee to sonic some extent it will reveal the current knowledge among high school students of utah theia im importance to utah secondly it will stimulate a wider inte interest iest in the resources of our state and the products manufactured here increased inte interest in utah products will strengthen our local industry and aid in building a greater state ames K bagley executive seere tary of the UMA in commenting com on the project stated the hom market the general area where the products are made is of vital im ain poi tance to utah manufacturers it means in many instances the difference between expanding operations erat ions or declining production between success of a manufacturing enterprise or failure avery ever yone ones I 1 s interest in the state is involved in the health and growth cf our manufacturing industries for f or as they expand trade and professional services expand and a broader tax base is created for necessary government services many products of utah facto factories fac tones and industrial plants ara sold through stores food stores service stations clothing and department stores furniture furni tuie stores paint and hardware stores building supply houses general stores drug stores these products are generally known as consumers goods although some goods of this type are arc sold directly by the manufacturer to tile the consumer other products of utah plants are sold as supplies or materials for industrial users ur or for use in commercial and service industries almost all of utah manufacturing is directly related to the agricultural or mineral resources of the state and the manu fracturing fae fac turing operations provide a market for the products of the farm and the range and for the materials which are developed in mining and quarrying operations |
