Show water meet meetings ings are planned during february groups will convene to determine methods of flood prevention in area OGDEN possible howling flooding of weber and ogden rivers by high water expected d during the spring runoff run off has resulted in the scheduling of a number of emergency meetings in february to plan preventative venta tive action george H chairman of the weber ogden planning commission said thursday heavy snows in the watersheds of both rivers coupled with deposits of silt and debris in the lower regions of the streams have c caused a u sed river observers to eye the situation with apprehension he said the flood dangers on ogden river already have been called to the attention of residents along the river as well as to the city and county commissions railroad companies who have bridges over the river and the utah general depot according to win templeton city engineer debris pushed into the river at a point just west of wall avenue in ogden including a number of large trees will likely wash downstream to bridge trestles catch on the pilings to form dams which will either cause the water to flood or wash out the trestles along the weber river farmers farmer have complained of the inroads the stream is making on their lands and some are openly fearful of losing valuable acreage if the river rises to the expected levels id luring during the runoff run off several Ri verdale residents have appealed to county commissioners for assistance in altering the river channel to protect their lands but the commis commission has held th the job is too large for them to become i involved wed in and has declined to help the commissioners suggested state legislation be asked for in the project an investigation of possible federal government assistance in irk clearing river channels and controlling rivers and possible floods is being made by the planning commission according to mr both bot fm S army engineers and the bureau of reclamation have been contacted and will attend the february meetings meetings with property owners along both rivers also will be arranged in order to obtain a clear picture of the problems from the owners standpoint suggested as a possible solution to the problem is the planning c commissi 0 in in i s a i ons recommendation made several months airo ago that lands immediately adjacent to both rivers be acquired for public ownership to facilitate the problem of flood control maps at the planning office also show the river lands as potential recreation parks |
