Show beloved pioneer called to final rest thomas palmer 83 year old pioneer churchman and farmer ol of morgan county died at his home wednesday september 30 at p m from a heart attack he had ridden his horse into the to work during the forenoon and returned home for lunch while eating he was stricken and died before medical aid arrived mr palmer was born in salt lake city june 3 1859 a son of thomas and fannie ns palmer pioneer settlers of salt lake valley when he was three years year old his family moved to what Is now enterprise ter prise morgan county for a number of years he worked for the union pacific railroad as a bridge crew foreman ile he married rutha stewart in morgan january 1 1887 and soon afterward they moved to this city where he engaged in farming and stock raising an active L D 8 church worker he was a member of the stake high priests quorum at the time of his death he served as a member of the north morgan ward bishopric under bishop james A anderson for 18 13 years during which time the ward chapel was built ile he served as a ward teacher tor for 60 years and as a missionary in the southern states from 1898 to 1930 1900 ile he had also been a member of the stake Y M M I 1 A mr palmer served several terms as morgan county commissioner and also as city councilman lie he had been president at one time of th north morgan irrigation company and assisted in constructing the first culinary water mater system in the county surviving are three sons and three daughters james T palmer a morgan county commissioner earl W palmer of detroit mich frank P palmer of Us los angeles mrs hattle hattie of ogden mrs floyd aless of oakland and mrs rhea carey of portland ore six brothers and two sisters fred ernest tracy and oliver palmer ot of ogden thomas thomafs pelmer palmer of gad fitel 1 ville and joseph palmer whose address was not known and mrs pearl hutchinson and mrs nellie dark clark of ogden funeral services were conducted saturday at 2 p m in the morgan L D S stake tabernacle by bishop joseph rees of the north morgan ward As the services proceeded prayer at the home was given by nat clark and the invocation was by horace helner heiner bishop arthur rich gave the benediction singers for the services were howard francis clarence rich mrs errol eddington wendell carrigan and mrs richards and they were accompanied by ada walder who also rendered a piano interlude the speakers were richard R fry H B crouch bishop thomas palmer everett anderson and bishop rees the grave was dedicated in north morgan cemetery by E A wilde and the pall bearers were members of the morgan stake high priests quorum the Y W M I 1 A of north morgan and granddaughters had charge of the flowers |
