Show Manti Monti Council Petitioned Petitioner To Hold Up on Land Sale An Ephraim woman appeared appear appear- ed last Monday night before the regular session of the Manti Mantl City Council in regard to the city's property located east of the Manti Temple Miss Grace Johnson asked the Manti lawmakers if they could hold off on the sale of the property until she is ab able to contact some groups she is affiliated with to see if jf she could create some new interest interest interest inter inter- est in other possible developments developments developments develop develop- ments for the land She offered several suggestions suggestions suggestions one of which was a regional re re- re gional park The council said that they felt that it would be some time before anything could be done They said that City Attorney Don V. V Tibbs is presently working toward having having having hav hav- ing a notice published calling for bids but as yet this was not completed Mrs John Swenson w was a s salso also present at the council session session session ses ses- sion in regard to the painting and cleanup clean of the club rooms located in the basement of the library building She said that the Ladies Literary Club would like to help up clean-up and paint the room if the city would help The council decided to have the councilmen on the library committee committee committee com com- meet with the clubs and work out plans The council approved a request request request re re- re- re quest by the school district to use some of the city's heavy equipment for work on the school grounds in Manti The problem of leaves clogging clogging clogging clog clog- ging up culverts on Main Street was discussed It was decided to have city employees clean up the culverts as soon as possible A motion was made and passed allocating for Cor the city's share toward expenses incurred in the repair work on the runway at the Manti-Eph- Manti raim Airport It was noted that Ephraim will also pay to to- to ward the work The State of Utah is donating 1000 for the work while hile the Air Force paid several thousand dollars for forthe forthe forthe the repair of the runway The damage was caused when it a large Air Force plane landed breaking holes in the runway It was reported that the fence project at the Manti ManU Cemetery is nearly completed The fence has been installed by Green Thumb workers with some assistance assistance assistance as as- from city employees The cost of the materials was shared jointly by the State of Utah and Manti City Each government unit contributed approximately toward the project The Manti City Recorder John H. H Nielson was instructed instruct instruct- ed to write the State Road Commission in regard to the status of the proposed work to tobe tobe tobe be done at the south entrance to Manti City It was also reported that one of Mantis Manti's civic clubs club was Interested in interested interested In- In in working with the city to provide additional trash containers to be placed on Main Street to cut down on the litter It was pointed out that trat club officials had some ideas on special designs for the containers containers containers con con- which they felt would aid in the problem Further Study tudy will be given this matter |
