Show t p II the Editor Letters to i Dear Editor There has been much talk about making Ephraim a beautiful beautiful beau beau- t and fine place to live We have many advantages that make people want to live here We have the college clean air hunting and fishing close by a good water supply and a growIng growing growing grow grow- ing demand for labor In the immediate area The people are Justly proud of the environment In which they are rearing their children The older citizens find Ephraim a desirable place to spend their declining years jears Some people of Ephraim live In the past and are not concerned concerned concerned con con- with the future of this lovely community As Ephraim grows and It will grow what are we going to do for more water increasing sewage problems problems problems lems repairing and building new roads and sidewalks disposing disposing disposing dis dis- dis- dis posing of our rubbish replanting replant replant- ing trees adequate police protection protection protection pro pro- and building lots for those who want to live here We must plan to keep our growth and development within our ample city limits We must have taxes within the city to maintain our services and the beauty of the city We have seen growth and de development development development de- de in many cities wherein tracts and land development development development dev dev- outside the city limits have drawn people from city centers These tracts and land developments have also de depleted depleted depleted de- de the taxable values of city properties As a result land values and taxes have decreased to a point where cities decline and become ugly slums These draw undesirable people and lower the amount of taxes the city can collect This leaves the city without the money to maintain main main- tam tain o services such as police pollee departments new hard surfaced ed roads sidewalks rubbish disposal schools parks businesses businesses busi busl- i nesses and other facilities which a growing city needs The time has come for us to plan to preserve the lovely things in our little city First We First We should have an or ordinance ordinance or- or forbidding the city to furnish services outside of the city limits such as water sewage sewage sewage sew sew- age disposal electric power etc Second Second We We should have a use land-use map acceptable to the people of Ephraim This would take care of the growth within the city limits Third Third We We should have anor- anor an or ordinance ordinance or- or which provides methods for tor dividing large lots into new building lots I Fourth Fourth We We should have an ordinance that would penalize property owners who do not keep their property orderly so that it enhances the beauty of the city We should encourage our city council to plan for and preserve preserve preserve pre pre- serve the beauty we have in our ouri ourtown j i town so that it will be a lovely love love- 1 ly place to live and raise chilI chil chil- dren I I W.
