I Pond allowing as l high gh as 75 r I gallons of water per minute to escape through the dam This is extremely serious in that w the dam could fall fail completely The amount of water trapped behind this dam should it t be released pleased all at once could cause joss loss of human life Ufe as well ast as t l irreparable resource damage The lower pond has a sizeable sizeable size size- able hole through the dam r f created by beaver activity This hole Prevents filling the pond to 10 its s capacity Although not as r serious a hazard due to dam height as the upper pond It 6 Will IJ also require corrective action These ponds are valuable to local cal people as well as distant H If travelers as a source of lion tion Their continued existence therefore e is the desire of the Forest Service as well as the Public p l Plans for the immediate fud fue fu- fu ture hie e d concern primarily the upI upPer up- up IV Per er pond I The dam will be j breached this fall tall permitting most roost of the water to drain Tl This s is necessary to allow adequate adequate ade ade- quate drying for reconstruction activities Reconstruction will Involve installation of an 18 inch concrete pipe through the base of the dam This concrete pipe will have a control valve and be connected to a morning morning- glory type stand pipe This stand pipe will function as an overflow which will regulate the level of the reservoir It will help eliminate problems of beaver plugging the regulating regulating regulating regu regu- lating overflow and permitting storage of a dangerous amount of water After installation of the concrete pipe and overflow the dam will be replaced permitting permitting per per- ml water storage and continued continued continued con con- fishing enjoyment Funds required for rehabilitation rehabilitation of ot the upper pond willbe will willbe willbe be l high gh It Is therefore very doubtful adequate funds will wUl be available for tor reconstruction of both dams at the same time Consequently water will be diverted out of ot the lower pond and It will remain dry until funds become available As a fishing enthusiast your patience and cooperation are requested an and 1 will wUl be appreciated appreciated appreciated during proposed rehabilitation rehabilitation tation activities Hopefully only one summers summer's fishing in the upper pond will be lost |
