Show Council Opens ens ensi Bid i On n nanti Manti anti Property The Manti City Council Monday Monday Monday Mon Mon- day night opened a bid on over acres of land located east of the Manti Temple property The bid entered by Walter and Maxine Nickel of Delafield Wisconsin called for purchase a price of 19 an acre or a total of 2071 for the entire piece of land Following the opening of the bid Councilman R. R Morgan Dyreng Dyreng Dyreng Dy- Dy reng made a notion that the matter be tabled until further study could be made This mo mo- mo- mo tion was seconded oy DY Councilman Council Council- man Frank Mrs Wilbur Jane Braithwaite Braithwaite Braithwaite Braith- Braith waite of Manti ManU and Mrs Russell Dorothy Gray of Ephraim were present at the meeting Mrs Braithwaite read an open letter in regard to a proposed School of Fine Arts to be located on that property No definite plans are yet in existence regarding this school but a great deal of study has been made on the feasibility of such a facility The two women felt that if such a school could become a reali reality ty it too could be a great asset to this area and would tend to beautify the temple temple temple tem tem- hill Bill Manti man who has represented Mr Nickel in the proposed housing de development development development de- de on the city land east of the temple was also in at attendance attendance attendance at- at at the meeting to present present present pre pre- sent a peli petition lion to the council containing the nam names s of 40 citizens citizens citi citi- zens who were in favor of the proposed project Stanley Simmons mons president of the Manti ManU Business Association Association Association Assoc Assoc- told the council that he felt that most local business firms were In favor of the new housing development be because because because be- be cause it would bring in new families and could increase the business for local merchants Mayor layor Leslie J J. J Anderson read rI a letter l H from the h Utah Vh Travel Council where they asked that due consideration be given to the unique setting of the attractive structure so it may continue to be properly displayed for the traveling pub pub- lic lie The council discussed the remodeling work being carried on at the club rooms of the Manti library It was noted by Council Councilman man Merrill Maylett that all materials have now been obtained for lor the project He said that there is still a great deal of work remaining before the undertaking would be bo completed It was pointed out that the city now has a wheel four-wheel drive truck which will be he used as asa asa asa a pu unit by the Manti Fire Department The council felt that this vehicle would help the city to be better prepared to meet conditions at out of town fires where the terrain is quite often difficult for a regular wheel two-wheel drive out out- fit fH |
