Show ENLARGING THE VOTE V Vote The Leagues are getting busy These are worthy movements on their faces and probably the country w would uld be worse without them But to merely get out the vote without taking a more fundamental stand for civic eduCation education education tion and patriotic motives is fl a job only half done Str Strangely enough the right of suffrage is only one of many rights all good citizens enjoy Assuming that they voted honestly honestly honestly hon hon- estly and intelligently ten per cent of the electors might be able to to vote good men into offices offices' and good measures into existence just as well as 90 per er cent There is no assurance that 90 per pent ent will vote more intelligently than the ten per cent There is this possibility however that the ten percent may have some pet hobby or monopolizing scheme which because of the special interest involved impels them to go solidly to the polls while the remainder of the electorate might by chance or or deliberation prevent the obstruction to the rule of the majority by turning out in great numbers i I |
