Show YORK WORK FOR OUR BOYS BOYSA A careful survey r recently made in the High School revealed reveal reveal- ed the fact that approximately 75 of these boys will be without lucrative employment as soon as school closes and unless they are fortunate to either find work from others or create employment employment employment employ employ- ment for fOl themselves they are facing a season of ill profit financially fin and otherwise The prospect of finding work from others seems so limited at this time that the boys will do well veIl to look to their own efforts efforts efforts ef ef- ef- ef forts in supplying themselves with lucrative employment Although it may seem to some that the duty of those who have is to employ those who have not and thus equalize practical people will not pursue this line of argument very far because they know the laws of successful business are not built upon such axioms I I A new industrial situation seems to be developing itself itself- More l and more successful men are shaping their business so that they can operate their concern without employing others or at least reducing the employment problems to a minimum There are a number of causes contributing to this condition which need not be discussed here If then it be true that there is a tendency to avoid the employment employment employment em em- problem and to reduce ones business so that it may be operated largely within the family circle then it becomes all the more more important that early in life men and women who are not included in such an enterprise develop the ability to create work for themselves That such an ability can be developed goes without saying There is hardly a successful man or women anywhere who haI hay has I not developed this ability early in life Such an ability cannot l be e developed without effort more effort more effort indeed than can be crowded into eight hours per day Indeed we may well observe what the poet has said Heights by great men reached and kept Were Vere not attained by sudden flight Y They while their companions slept V Were ere toiling upward in the night Then if there is a derth of jobs for ourselves and our boys let us get busy and create some There are many opportunities and many of our young men would take to them if they were directed properly that way vay Elsewhere in this paper you will read of a variety of boys boy's and girls girl's club work There is hardly any limit to the variety and latitude open here for those who really desire to do something something something some some- thing worth while True it will cost something to enter these projects but if there is a real desire a way can be found The poultry field is especially inviting here the beginnings in dair dairying dairying dairy dairy- ing is also open so is a pig club sheep club turkey club goose club At the present time the cannery is asking for the growing growing growing grow grow- ing of carrots cabbage beens and celery and the sugar factory is asking for more beets Why not work up some of our vacant vacant vacant va va- vaI I cant lots that may be had for the asking Pieces of ground may be had in the field if the right kind of interest is shown The field of opportunity is almost unlimited if there is an honest desire to make good It is far better to take a chance in making good in some one of these things than to chance being idle during the summer What if the immediate profits are not so great If if the project is successfully carried profits are not so great if the profit is successfully carried through one of the finest lessons in life will have been learned- learned the lesson to produce and what it takes to produce and the power pow- pow er jr to create for ones one's self Theres There's only one way that's right and all the other ways are wrong z z o I Good ideas are only seeds They must be planted and tilled till tilled till till- ed before they can produce i I knead thee every hour sangI sans sang i the God-fearing God baker as as he lie mixed up another batch of dough |
