But the lake is wide and rowing at atthe atthe atthe the best is a slow proposition Befort Befort Defort Be- Be fort they were half haIr way across they I noted that the smoke was decreasing ing ng quite noticeably however howe and by hy bythe bythe hythe the time they had reached readied the opposite opposite opposite site shore the time fire tire was practically out On landing they found there three Boy noy Scouts of Richfield Utah Clinton Colb Colby Gordon Robinson and amI andRex Roy Rex Lowe Lowe wino who had noted the start of the fire as the they were fishing nearby nearby near near- b by and had landed and attacked the flames throwing water upon them thema from a coffee corree pot and a gallon pail pall which they happened t to have ha with them Their efforts had come just justin in the nick of time for while an anarea anarea anarea area of only about square feet was burned over the flames succeeded succeed succeed- ed In III going half way up two large Jarge spruce trees and in a few moments more a full fledged grown fire tire would have roared Into being which would have rushed from the base hase of the time I slope to the very crest before ItI it I could have been controlled It would I have made trade a hideous blotch upon the time mountain side that forms a background background background back back- I ground for the lovely expanse of oC blue bluewater bluewater water of oC Fish Lake to say sa- nothing of the time destruction of or timber and wa wa- watershed watershed watershed cover A careful investigation revealed the fact that early in the time morning some somei fisherman had stopped on the time shore i and built a camp fire which he had failed to entire entirely extinguish It had mad slowly cm crept ept along through the time dr dry leaves and twigs without making enough smoke to be visible from the opposite shore until in the heat of I the day About 1 o'clock it had rapidly rapid rapid- l ly gathered headway and was developing developing developing devel devel- into a real forest fire tiro wl when en it was nipped In the bud by the time three Boy Doy Scouts to whom er e every visitor at Fish Lake owes a debt of oC gratitude for having haYing preserved the beauty of ot the mountain side opposite the lake |
