Show AN EXCELLE N ANCIENT A 1 A di in MINI J 11 be belt t of salt lake city loaned me an excellent example of a rain min lature etching the work c U P f n dent clent aboriginal indian it was not ot by belt from a cave on the dirty devil river near hanksville Hanks ville it is on a small fragment of a closel ce dented variety of pebble fine grain ed about 4 inches long cros sec see tion a flattened oval one end ed and of a peculiar shape much re dembling sem bling a blunted prong of an elk horn at the top a fine sun emblem be tween two men below them blat I 1 take to be a double sky band al 1 y meets earth in far of olf di un tai very dim lines now burough wai and age A fine snake T a nv rv of 7 or 8 teepees oa on a slant k ell drawn regular and nicely done below them six water lines one for each space region of N W S E up and down within the area of these lines and partly covered by them two figures of men one with six lines on bis his body and both men end ing or standing upon six more water lines I 1 ines between the fifth and sixth of which Is a row of minute dots al most microscopic in size below that a man and a much worn very dim deer of which the body remains the head and neck worn away but the big sweep of the horns still plainly discernible it is too dim and lacking too much in contrast to photograph I 1 made a faithful hand dra drawing wip c ning care with measurements to get it as nearly accurate as possible the piece is a very fine specimen all the symbols are regular in form complying fully with known and ac cepter forms the work regular well drawn and the workmanship of a high type I 1 wish to thank mr belt for the privilege of studying it and for per mission to make mention of it FB mrs E F stevens and her daugh mrs anna johnson and mrs leia lela woods aiom holden spent tuesday visiting in delta with mrs stevens daugh tel tei mrs cecil baker the twelve year old son of mr and I 1 mrs george was operated on in delta deita on january 17 tor for is and Is now convalescing at the delta hospital |
