Show livestock shows start ogden opening feb ath OGDEN OLMEN the biggest livestock movement west ot of chicago will be set in motion this january 28 with the opening ol 01 the national western stock show in denver followed february 7 by the ogden livestock show and the golden gate livestock exposition san francisco feb 18 the link combing these western livestock centers into a big three thre show circuit was effected early last tall fall to bolster the livestock industry in the west and accommodate exhibit ors who come into the intermountain region each mid winter in cornee tion with their buying and selling activities at each of the show centers beet beef cattle will receive the lion s share of attention with each ol 01 the three expositions featuring steers heifers and feeder cattle that are easily con averted into beet beef steaks the og den stock show office already has assurance of 0 beet beef cattle breeders who participated in the american royal livestock show in kansas city missouri that they will be reg tor for the big three circuit the ogden show february 7 to 14 offers 14 in premium money including 2186 2 for winners in the junior department the total purse Is nearly 1200 increase over mone tary amounts given at this show last year in addition to the cash offer ings breed associations and bus ness houses offer merchandise prizes the prize purse Is divided as fol lows herefords shorthorns 2100 angus 2200 sheep 1155 individual fat steer or heifer tat fat barrows individual and pens 74 tat fat lambs individual and pens carlot fat cattle carlot feeder cattle 1250 carlot registered breeding bulls carlot fat lamb division and the 2186 in the junior department miss myrta hales show secretary expects the registrations of cattle sheep and swine including the carlot classes to reach animals to be shown in 12 classes already more than animals and eight exhibitors are represented in early bookings at the show office those in charge have long known that tho the consistent growth of this exhibition would bring a time when facilities would be crowded to the utmost in order to take care of the prize winning sheep cattle and hogs that would be assembled and this year members of the junior depart ment will be domiciled comici led in quarters all their own the 25 annex to the coliseum the past three years has cm em pha sized the growing Im importance c e of the junior department composed of future farmer and four fouch 11 clubs and their entries jiahe been more or less accepted halfheartedly and their entries crammed into any off space in the coliseum with all the junior department cattle off the main floors of the coliseum space to receive an estimated 1000 more cattle will be made this extra space will be filled by herefords and angus cattle the two show division showing the largest growths during the past five years the program of judging will open in the junior department with fat steers tat fat hogs carlots and bals paraded before judges in the forenoon and tat fat steers in the open classes in the afternoon february 8 second day of the stock show the junior judging will be completed with individual tat fat lambs on february 8 shorthorns in the open classes will be bent lent through the showings and in the morning ot of the same day judging will be held in the individual tat fat swine classes in the afternoon breeding sheep in the junior and open classes will be judged and also the junior and open carlots of fat lambs on thursday february 8 here fords breeding sheep angus and carlots of tat fat swine classes will be judged the judging program will be concluded friday february 10 in the carlot bulls and carlot tat fat cattle classes audition sales scheduled during the period will be held february 9 purebred shorthorn cattler february 10 purebred hereford cattle february 11 prize winning tat fat cattle sheep and hogs and dairy cattle the sale sales will be concluded on february 18 with the carloads ot of feeder cattle ganders are usually bigger and coarser than geese particularly in the head and neck also their voices are harsher when exposed to apparent danger geese will retreat with heads low while gander ganders advance with necks outstretched |
