Show cook gives enthusiastic game report newell D cook state fish and game commissioner recently got out a short report on game condi conal eions in utah the report was not fully compiled as the commission did not have the complete figures on hand but what was reported on was very favorable mr air cook said that duck and geese shooting had increased very mater tally fally due to the protection of these birds andi and also to the tact fact that var lous refuges had been built in utah pheasants were reported on the in crease but the season for them was not so successful at anticipated thru out the state because of the storms that will no doubt bring an even longer season next year as the farm ers mut have some relief from the birds as they are getting too many in the state the most encouraging report was on the deer kill this year hunters killed oft off more deer this past year than were in the state twenty years ago the percentage of bucks was very high with an estimated kill of 65 per cent with many bucks ported does were killed in great numbers with the hunters getting al most the head set by the corn com mission aa as needing killing millard county shows that some deer were killed there this figure is almost the total kill of any other three counties in the state ibis is an enormous enoi number of deel deer for just one county and is almost three times what was killed in bea er county and beaver claims the deer hunting paradise of the state of the deer killed here were does permits were issued for 1 does now the point we wish to bring out is that utah is a fine game state every section in the state has its share of the barlous tapes of game and fish much of the increase is due to the present commission which has handled the matter very success fu fully lly BUT here in millard county we have the largest deer kill by a huge majority we have clear lake for wild fowl which is one of the finest in the state we have a large num I 1 ler er of bass we have several excel lent trout streams we have a few of the remaining antelope in the state and we have possibly more pheas ants than any other section BUT again we have no protection for any of this what millard county should have is a full time paid paid warden who would spend all of his time here and give the game his attention and protection other sections have game wardens but millard county has none maybe the commission feels that in millard county there is no poaching and thus no need of full time wardens but we do have poach ing and will have more because of the large increases made in all types of game the delta game club will take this matter up with mr cook when they meet with the commission this week end in salt lake city and see it millard county cant can t be protected for future open seasons an encouraging item appeared in a salt wha ake paper the other day stat ing ehg r p the government will ap t ler money to buy farm and ranch lands in beaver and millard counties this will eliminate a lot ot of the kicks against deer when this land Is bought up and should bring an endl end to doe shooting again we bay say that the state fish and game commission Is doing a tine fine job but we still want a paid warden |
