Show A AIND RL there is abundant evidence to justify the statement that the new deal is undergoing not only a reformation but a rev alution within its own ranks policies are being changed the calling of a special session of congress is not a sur prise that has been heralded tor for some time the asserted reason for the session is new farm aid legislation wil with th federal hours and wages as runners up of importance but in tho view of some commentators the real purpose of the session has hag not been announced officially those who follow politics have noticed a rather remark able change in mr roosevelt s more recent speeches and public announcements he has been much less critical than in the past of the groups which oppose his administration s aims and meth on his swing around the country most of his major and minor talks were comparatively mild in tone and wording it has been widely said by responsible newspapermen that the speech he had originally planned to deliver at bonneville was a slashing attack on the opposition and that he changed his mind when he got away from the stultifying air of washington and substituted the calm and relative relatively 13 speech he actually delivered As a consequence there is a strong feeling that all this maneuvering of the past few weeks is a clever and effective effect ice screen for a rather complete unannounced reformation of the new deal from within in support of the changed policy it is cited that the white house has definitely renounced the plan of heavy government spending to bolster business and prices that the government spending must be reduced and the budget balanced and lastly that the high price rise making living that much more expensive favorin bg one class against another must be halted and the supreme court reorganization apparently has been abandon ed it looks as if mr air roosevelt has come to the conclusion that the government at washington can do more for the country by returning to the original objectives of his early administration farm aid which the industrial worker feels is against his purse by higher costs of living and control of wages and hours it appears that calling attention to world affairs is a shrewd way of public thought while the real changes in pol icy are being worked out and soft pedal polices now abandoned which have failed give the people something else to think about the president still believes in getting more power central iced in washington which in miny iny even in his own party strong ly object to he can see a split in his own party by following those courses against public opinion and a communistic trend against the common property holder which almost all are is one of the first things that must b hushed there must be a decided trend against that former policy to hold the votes of men who have something around them in other words if something must be dropped overboard these things are the first from every angle there is a basic change needed in the new deal and no one knows knous it better than the president the boston tea party was not about tea but about heavy taxation you can t get by with extremes either now or then radicalism is fine to start out for a moment until it hurts us as well as the other fellow and when it does it is time to put it aside at the present time people wont move into new investments there is too much taxation what stared out as soak the rich is now seen simply to burden the little fellow with higher prices on all he buys and another thing people are growing tired of too much washington |
