eggs and most shells are fairly porous every poultry mari should have a cool fairly moist room tor for holding eggs until they are taken to the plant for grading advises carl extension immediately ater after the eggs are gathered take them to the egg room where the temperature should not be allowed to go below 40 degrees or above 55 degrees fahrenheit and where the air is moist recently mr air Frisch visited the poultry men of 0 astoria oregon where the altitude is near sea level and where it rains tour four days out of 0 every five lie observed the producers carrying pans of 0 water down into their basements anil and cellars to provide a cool moist atmosphere in which to hold their eggs it if such a practice is ii desirable at astoria where the annual rainfall Is in excess of 75 inches each year how much lunch moio important is it to have a cool moist loom in which to cool and pack the eggs in most parts of 0 utah where the summer temperatures temperature are higher and the annual rainfall Is seldom in excess of 18 inches mr points out y I 1 the fact act that the percentage of 0 agtie e eggs marketed in the top grade in aali A has haa dropped front from 58 per cent 1 V february to 4 46 6 per cent in june evidence that more attention needs to be given to the manner in which th eggs in utah are cared tor for from the time they are laid until they reach the egg grading plant tor for candling loans available fol fori repairing house roofs by william peterson director extension service there la Is no more fundamental strength in a house than a roof this 13 the protection against the weather whether it be hot stormy or cold when one rides from one end of 0 utah to the other he cannot help but be greatly impressed with the necessity of rehabilitating the houses 0 of the state many 0 of the houses seem to have gone a long time without any expenditure for upkeep they lack paint new casings cor nices and screens but probably the most outstanding necessity Is root repairing many of 0 the shingle roots roofs have stood long beyond the natural ufa life 0 of the material out ot of which they were built some ot of the roots have actually begun to shed and show the bare sheathing underneath there are still literally hundreds ot of houses bouses that are in dire necessity of 0 being re shingled one might postpone the mending of the porch floor or the corner ot of the screen but to postpone the fixing of the root roof when it needs it Is both dangerous and wasteful it will never get better the only time it Is sate safe in fit the philosophy of 0 the arkansas traveler la Is when it does not rain or storm schedule I 1 ot of the federal housing act makes it possible tor for home owners to secure loans of 0 sufficient amount to repair their buildings and make repayment while living under tinder a good root the best time to shingle Is now it the house needs it the recent practice of putting new shingles on without removing the old ones is a safe and satisfactory plan this method gives a better belter insulation and the root will be cooler in summer and warmer in winter the only precaution necessary is that it there are bare spots on the root cover them before the now new shingles are added whether the owner uses wood shingles or some other type or rooting roofing is to his taste certainly the best beat grade ot of cedar shingles have given entire satisfaction much is claimed tor for some of 0 the manufactured rooting roofing however it Is not the plan to discriminate either cither tor for or against any type ot of root roof but in the spirit of 0 the housing act it Is argent that roots of 0 many houses be recovered for further information on qualifying for loans see aee your banker R R R promises help for needy in rural
