Show OIL NEWS THE attorney william B higgins president of the virgin dome oil company a corporation engaged lu ju drilling operations on what is known as ag sf IT the harrisburg dome in washington county brings very encouraging reports this company suspended suspend eo drilling g operal toris some time ago pen pending din the final determination of 0 certain litigation which involved thu title to a large amount ot of valuable property to have continued drill drilling inq until those titles were finally settled might have resulted in the loss 0 of a major portion ot of its holdings the titles are now settled and this company holds more patented lands than any other company operating in that ned ot of the state mr higgins reports that before suspending their drill pent grated a productive oil sand the force ot of the gas raised the tools up feet on the well the bailer was run and large quantities of both gas and oil were brought out mayor albert E miller of st george city A L woodhouse manager of the southern utah power company J W prince president of 0 the dixie bank and many other citizens ot of the town were invited out to the rig to view the discovery they dipped up tip both oil and gas in tomato cans and it boiled over like the foam on soda water or beer they placed some of the oil onto a board and burned it it was also tested out by herman harms state chemist and found to be good high gravity base oil now that their titles are cleared up mr air higgins informs us that his company intends lowering down the casing in such a manner na ner as to shut off the water which stands ori on top of the oil to a depth ot of two thousand and two hundred feet beet making a pressure ot of many thousands ot of pounds which holds the oil from coming to the top As soon as the water is eased cased ot off the water can be balled down don to reduce the weight ot of the water A ater and allow it to flow while this company like all other pioneer companies has had much discouragement yet it has as we are informed sufficient stock in tho the treasury which it if sold eold will afford ample to bring in this well which will in the usual order of things be the opening of a wonderful era in the history of southern utah ever since the U S government created this section of 0 utah into an oil reserve the oil fraternity has been watching with an anxious eye the developments of that field today there are tour four other operating companies at work in that field one new company from riverside calif just in with a new rig on what is known as the beehive leehive dome southeast of st george the mid american oil company with the largest rig in the field now has a hole down to a depth of about nine hundred feet the azona company has been drilling tor for some time past and now has two holes down to a depth of about five hundred feet the arrowhead petroleum company has not yet stated at what point it will erect its first new rig but that will probably be made known within the next few days there are some quite strong holding companies holding land in various parts of et the field pending de avii diw mr higgins reports that while it Is conceded that the virgin dome oil company has oil in commercial quantities yet until the water Is bail ed out the exact amount cannot be definitely stated however it is a matter of common occurrence occur ence in oil operations to have a well of as high as ten thousand barrels per day with the oil and gas encountered in the virgin dome oil company well no one with the weight ot of water there Is in that well to hold down the oil it is the plan ot of this paper to publish the news from this feild more in detail in the future so that the reading public may know more about what there Is in their own state |
