Show MINERSVILLE TEAM ! ! Although Utan's representatives in the national scholastic basketball tournament, to be held in Chicago this week, comes from a little school of forty-five students, the state will never receive more publicity in a hoop tourney than it will this season from the Minersville high school party, fourteen form the party from the little Beaver county town, which is now on its way to . Chicago. The party made a short stopover in Salt Lake Sunday night, and never before was such interest shown. The party is sponsoring a campaign cam-paign to advertise Utah and will distribute large colored maps, showing show-ing the natural advantages the state offers besides a folio of pictures of the lakes, mountains, wild life, etc., along with a feature story of the sensational triumph of the little Minersville Min-ersville quintet. Thousands of these will be distributed by the party. Coach Stanley McKnight announced an-nounced that he would use his same lineup in the opening game, at Chicago Chi-cago as was used throughout the state tournament. This lineup includes in-cludes Clarence Gillins and Othellc Smith, forwards; Newell Marshall, center; Arshell Hollingshead and Harley Eyre, guards. In addition to these players, the squad is composed of DuWayne Carter, Marcine Davis and Wallace Osborne. , The remainder of the Beaver county party consists of S. Mel-vin Mel-vin Wittmer, Minersville high school principal, M. O. Poulson, county school superintendent, Darwin Marshall and, Heber Gillins. Messrs. E. N. Thompson, J. P Barton Bar-ton and son, E. A. Griffiths, J. C. Bow-man, James Rollins and Asa Barton Bar-ton left Beaver Friday at 3 p. m. ir. two cars for Chicago where they will meet the rest of the party and enjoy the games. They went - via Needles and Alberquerque, as the passes east of here are snow blocked. According to Mr. Poulson, the purpose pur-pose of the Minersville team's journey jour-ney eastward is not solely to satisfy its thirst for athletic glory and the plaudits of tournament crowds. Back of the determination to win the national na-tional championship is a purpose to serve Utah and Beaver county which would appeal to any hard-headed business man. The young athletes intend to advertise Utah constructively construc-tively and effectively whenever the can, so that they can exhibit other achievements besides the caputred national na-tional championship when they return. re-turn. The plan, as outliner while preparations prepara-tions were being made for their departure, de-parture, so appealed to the Lions club of Milford that its members are backing back-ing this pracitcal inovation in the field of athletics. Mr. Poulson will have charge of the campaign to advertise Utah and Beaver Bea-ver county. Large colored maps, bringing out the advantages and opportunities op-portunities of the state, will be displayed dis-played during the national tournament and thousands of sheets of advertising advertis-ing matter will be distributed. This will tell something about the Minersville Miners-ville basketball team's whirlwind progress to state championship honors, and also will tell much about Milforil valley and what it has to offer the homeseeker. Pictures range from the deer hunted in Beaver mountains to alfalfa fields, chicken ranches and trout lakes. The Minersville team will go straight through to Chicago, because the national tournament's opening will leave no time for tarrying on the way, but stops at several points on I the return journey are under con-: con-: sideration. These probably will be unavoidable un-avoidable if the Utah boys capture the championship. The Panquitch high school team, coached by Mr. Poulson, came near that achievement three years ago. j Principal Wittwer of the Miners-j Miners-j ville high school coached the present j tate champions a year ago when j they were making their start on the road to glory. |
