Show "BUCK PRIVATES TO WEST POINT" , j Time was when there was a caste system in the regular army which fixed something of gulf between those who came up ( from the ranks and those who were graduated from Wrest Point. But it's different now and at the national military academy there's a true demo- , cracy of "What can you do?" and not "Who are you?" ; This year a buck private from j from Oregon upset West Point traditions when he won the much j prized title of "Honor Man" and stood No. 1 in a class of 203 cadets. He was the first regular army appointee to gain such dis- tinction and his story is the story of an opportunity for am- bitious American youth. You can read about him and about ! that opportunity in an illustrat- ed feature article, "Buck Priv- ates to West Point," in this issue of The Beaver Countv News. I |
