Show Two Years Show Big Increase of Interest in L A. & S. L. Rifle Unit The L. A. & S. L. unit meet of rifle men was held here Saturday and Sunday, resulting in the following scores and the naming of a team of six men to represent the unit at the Union Pacific System meet at Provo, September 4 and 5. Captain Underwood of Los Angeles, under whose direction the meet was held, sums up the affair as follows; Ow 0000 O " ? Sportsmanship Sports-manship displayed, 100 per cent by every competitor. Number of competitors com-petitors on L. A. unit 1925, 2; 1926, 4; 1927, 17. Showing an increase of interest in two years of 750 percent on the L. A. &. S. L. unit which speaks volumes of praise for W. C. Barnes, of Milford Mil-ford and Mr. Silver of Provo. These two Rifle Bugs have worked wonders for the shooting game on this unit. U. P. units take notice "look well to your laurels and guard well your trophes. The L. A. & S. L. boys are beating their tom-toms and expect ex-pect to do a war dance before many moons have waned. I say look out, Ye Oldest Inhabitants. The "Utes" have their war-paint all ready to decorate with. Put your ear to the ground and note the approach ap-proach of the warriors bold who dare to attack the "Old Hump" stronghold. Listen, you Cheyennes, the Utans are after your goat. Capta.n A Uniderwood won the "Mlford Monthly Cup." Eldridge won the Clerical Managers Cup. The U-am will be composed of Eld-. ridge, Banres and Bradshaw of Milford; Mil-ford; Underwood of Los Angeles, Silver Sil-ver and Rita of Provo. Sunday evening after the shoot I Captain Underwood gave a banquet at the U. P. dining room to the rifle men and a few invited guests at which Horton acted as toast-master in his usual efficient manner. To Ralph Lemraon was delegated the task of presenting the winners with the cups which they had won. To Eldridge, the "General Managers Cup" and to Underwood the "Milford Monthly Cup." Eldridge and Underwood responded re-sponded with well-chosen words. The Captain stating that this had been one of the best meets he had ever attended. He especially emphasised the true sportsmanship shown by every competitor and the good to lie derived by such conduct. Barnes who had chartre of the local arrangement, was deserving of much praise for the condition of the range. Barnes, when called upon to talk, told of the splendid co-operation he had received in the work, not only by the members of the team, but all officers of-ficers and employees of the unit and by the townpeople in general. Silver, Captain of the Provo team, had many kind words to say of the treatment received here and also of ' the plans for the big Provo Meet next month. Other speakers at the table were Draper, Joest, Carlton and Groneman. All present not only enjoyed a pleasant snral time, but a splendid feed such as the U. P. management knows so well how to prepare and serve. |
