Show DO U K WANT AN UO.VKST I'KIOSIDKXT It la becoming more and more apparent ap-parent every day that the President is the kind of a man that the ordinary ordi-nary run of people do 'not understand The very people who have been the loudest in denouncing "crookedness" and "grafting" in high places are now howling their heads off because the President is showing so little tact in catering to the voters. In the name of common sense can a man be honest and cater to the voters? The man in public that can forego his own good judgment and be found in line with every popular "ism," is not an honest man and is not to bo trusted. We have had these "ism politicians" in all kind of otfl-ces otfl-ces both high and low and they have been "tried and found wanting." In fact so many of them have been found wanting that many good men and women are deeply concerned about the safety of our American Institutions. In-stitutions. Now, we have a chance to find out, and wo will soon know whether the people really want hard-headed, honest hon-est officials. The President appear:-to appear:-to be totally careless of public opinion opin-ion and all the popular "isms" that haunt the ordinary politicians, like nightmares. He makes mistakes o course. He would not be human if he were perfect. Before his time in olllce is out he will probobly make! lots of mistakes. ' What we are pointing out is that he is absolutely fearless. He is honestly hon-estly Itself. He "would rather be right than to be the President of the United Unit-ed Slates. He is making no effort to be the next President of the United States, but he Is making a supreme effort to guide it in the course that he sees, while he is in a position of tiust and responsibility. We are not arguing the right nor the wrong of any of the controversies that he has had with Congress during dur-ing the past few weeks. While we agree with him in most cases, it Is for everyone to reason out for themselves themsel-ves whether he Is right or Congress is right. j But those Who really want an hon-j est President and have the capacity i to recognize one will vote for Mr.! Coolidge next November. Indioj (Cal.) Date Palm. j |
