Show OKLAHOMA LEGION MEN BUSY I One Post Builds City Park; Another j Buys Church Building for Its Home. The Kllngensniith post. No. 120. of Eristow, Okla.. with the aid of cltl- zens, built and dedicated a city park, according to William Courtney, Court-ney, post adjutant. adju-tant. The park was named for the post. It is one of the best In the state, the pavilion alone costing J50.0O0. The ronds cost $ij,000 and a lake $10,000. The park A. J. Fjogaly. covers five acres. Not to be outdone In the reports ol Legion posts with outstanding records, rec-ords, the Weart Gray post, No. 11G, oi Drumright, Okla.. bought a church building and will convert it into a post home, according to F. P. Schick-ram, Schick-ram, adjutant. The building was paid for out of American Legion funds collected col-lected through post activities. Th( post has sent several standard maga zines to the Soldiers' Tubercular sanitarium sani-tarium at Sulphur. A. J. Fogaly, commander of tht Drnmright post, recently gave the following fol-lowing report of the post's activities: "Our post was organized in 1910. and was named for cue of the most popular young men thai we had In this city, and who lost his life overseas. over-seas. We had rough plowing for a couple of years because we had determined de-termined that we would not accept any charity from our business men, and that any sum of money we raised would have to he through the effort of the membership only. We held some home talent plays and gave dances and various entertainments during the last three years, antl not until 1022 were we able to save enough whereby we could purchase a home. During the last year we had carnivals, home-talent plays, baseball base-ball team (Legion Haseball league, originated by our post, composed ot I six teams) ; we also had the Babt Ittith-Doh Meusel game, and some box Ing, together with some dancing. "An amendment to onr by-lnwi creating a building committee was en acted and the following named as the committee: Milton Speigle, J. G. Fisher and C. W. Saunders. "This committee immediately begai negotiating for a site for the building and purchased a place 100 by 140. al that time the members of the Christian Chris-tian church desired another location and placetl a proposition before our committee whereby we could deed the church our property and take their lots and building on an even trade plan. This gives us no by 120 feet with the building and all other improvements thereon, and with the cost of about $r00 we will own one of. the finest club rooms in this part of the state. We have our building paid for and about $700 in the hank. We have received no donations. Every penny was raised uy the help of the membership of Weart Gray post. No. 110, who are the most enthusiastic and peppery bunch of ex-service men you can find anywhere." |
