Show FREE USE OF TIMBER ' It has been the practice that qualified quali-fied applicants could get dead timber "nm National forests only after ob-'7 ob-'7 ning a written permit from the forest officer in charge. Pursuant to authority recently granted, District 5 of the Fillmore National Forest is thrown open to people having the necessary qualifications, to take dead timber for their own use without obtaining ob-taining a permit. The regulation governing this use as follows: "Free Use may be granted to bona bo-na fide settlers, miners, residents, ind prospectors for minerals, for fire wood, fencing, building, mining, pros meeting and other domestic pur-noses. pur-noses. " The following are not qualified to obtain Free-Use timber except under unusual conditions: Sawmill operators Proprietors of stores or hotels. Churches. Schools Corporations. Commercial enterprises in general The following rules must be observed ob-served in removing timber from this forest: 1. Slash is to be lopped and scattered! scat-tered! to lie close to the ground. 2. Fullest practical use to be made of each tree. 3. Do least possible dammage to growing timber. 4. Avoid cutting deep drag roads that invite erosion. 5. Leave no stumps higher than 14 Inches. 6. Cause no Injury to roads, trails, or ether existing improvements. 7. Be ready to fight forest fires if needed. 8. Be ready to show disposition made of timber taken. 9. Maintain sightly and sanitary camps.
