Show w Republicans Choose Marsden for Senate The Republican State Senatorial convention which met in Cedar City last Saturday afternoon nominated Lucene Marsden of Parowan on the seventh ballot. ThV convention was composed of 20 delegates from Iron County," 20 from Washington County Coun-ty and 16 from Beaver county. Each of the three counties entered a candidate. can-didate. - Karl Carlton from Beaver, Lucene Marsden from Iron and David Hir-schi Hir-schi (incumbent) from Washington and each received the support of his respective county on the first ballot. On the fourth ballot Beaver county cast eight for Marsden and 8 for Hirschi. A recess was called, following fol-lowing which the Beaver delegation delega-tion continued to support Carlton. Another recess came at the end of the sixth ballot, conferences were held by the supporters of the contenders con-tenders and upon calling the convention conven-tion to order again it was evident that an understanding had been arrived ar-rived at and when the roll was called call-ed Beaver split and cast ten votes for Marsden and six for Hirschi. When Washington county was called call-ed it cast its full strength, twenty votes, to Marsden. The Beaver county coun-ty chairman immediately got the floor and changed Beaver's vote to 16 for Marsden and Marsden was declared de-clared the unanimous choice of the convention for State Senator for this senatorial district. The convention organized by the selection of G. Hunter . Lunt and Hillman Dalley as - chairman and secretary. Frank Williams and Geo. C. Mur-dock Mur-dock Jr. were appointed as committeemen commit-teemen from Beaver county. Those who attended the convention conven-tion from this county were Geo. Jefferson, Jef-ferson, Andrew Morris, Karl S. Carlson, Carl-son, M. P. Lewis, Mrs. J. R. Murdork r., J. U. Schiess, Wm. Boyle. Geo. Skinner and Mrs. M. P. Lewis. Many from Washington and Iron counties expressed themselves favorable favor-able to the support of a candidate from Beaver county four years hence. I . - |
