Show MAYOR HIIBBELL AT THE HELM-NEW CITY OFFICIALS TAKE SEATS O. F. Hubbell was inaugurated on last Monday as mayor of the town of Milford, the ceremonies being be-ing very simple and brief. The retiring retir-ing hoard had met for their final session ses-sion to clean up the odds and ends of their administration. That completed com-pleted they extended their congratulations congratu-lations to their successors and pledged their full cooperation and adjourned sine die. The retiring board was composed of Mayor E. H. Bird; trustees E. F. Sherwood, Joe Smith, Wm. Cochrane, and Chas Himstreet. The new mayor was administered thei oath of office by Mayor Bird end then Geo. Litchfield, Les Clay, Frank Farmer and Jos. R. Murdock got theirs. Applications for appointive offices offi-ces were read. They were as follows: For clerk Minnie Mc Keon anu Letha Schow. For marshal Neils Johnson. Roy Coleman and D. N. Hickman. For watermaster Jos. Mathews, S. Stoker, Duncan and LeVon Bird. The board then adjourned until Thursday evening, at which time, after af-ter approving the minutes, they proceeded pro-ceeded to fill the appointive offices' by written, ballot as follows: For clerk, the vote stood, McKeon 4, the mayor not voting. For Marshal Hickman 1; Coleman Cole-man 3. For water master Bird 2; Matti-ews Matti-ews 2. This being a tie vote the mayor promptly decided by casting his voic-for voic-for Mathews. The remainder of the offices were filled by acclamation. Justice Bert Nichols; treasurer, M. P. Lewis; attorney, Sam Cllne. The mayor appointed Litchfield on water committee; Murdock on finance; finan-ce; Clay on streets. On motion of Litchfield, free water will be given all needy widows. On motion of Farmer the L. D. S. mutual was given permission to hold class meetings in the town hall on every Tuesday evening. Pete Johansen asked for a permit to run a pool hall in the Barton and McGarry building, formerly occupied by the Milford Mercantile company. He will install five tables and also wishes a permit to sell cigarettes. His application was favorably acted upon and the license will be issued upon his filing, a good anc suffie'ent bond with the clerk. The place will be known as the "Milford Club." The board adjournea for two weeks. |
