Show Contract Let on Zion Rim Road The Nevada Construction company, Fallon, Nev., was low bidder for constructing more than five miles of the east rim road on Zion National park when bids were opened Wednesday Wednes-day by District Engineer B. J. Finch, U. S. bureau of public roads. The bid was .?607,059.00 Wheelright Construction Company, Com-pany, Ogden, was a close second with a bid of $609,358.75. The highest bid was S950.7S8 from C. R. Adams, Yreka, Calif. The engineers estimate was $664,349. The project will include tunneling 5,582 feet through solid rock and excavating ex-cavating 2S9.900 yards. Nation-wide interest was taken in the construction of the road, contractors contract-ors as far east as Minneapolis, and Los Angeles in the west, applied for plans and specifications. Although 32 applications were received, only 13 bids were submitted. Offices of the bureau of roads proved prov-ed to be too small for the event and Engineer Finch was granted permission permis-sion by Officials of the Ogden chamber cham-ber of Commerce to use the library of that organization. Henry H. Blood and W. J. Parker of the state highway commission, Supt. E. T. Scoyan of Zion national park and Randall Jones, representing the V. P. railroad, attended the opening open-ing of the bids, in addition to representative repre-sentative sof the contracting firms. The project will have the longest tunnel on an automobile road in the United States. Record. |
