Show BIG BLAST FURNACE CONTRACT IS LET The contract for the blast furnaces of the Columbia Steel corporation to be erected between Prc-vo and Spring ville, has been let and it is expected that construction will be started before be-fore March 1, if the ground for the plant is delivered in time. Announcement Announce-ment to this effect was made yesterday yester-day by L. E. Rainsi, vice president of the company, upon return from San Francisco. The contract for the furnaces has been let to John Mohr & Sons, of Chicago, Chi-cago, Blast furnace and coke oven engineers are expected here early next week In connection with the proposed pro-posed work. The Provo and Spring-ville Spring-ville interests arranging for the ground for the plants have been notified no-tified that it was desired to start work by March 1. It is understood, however, that every effort Is being put forth to make the ground available. The work of opening up the company's com-pany's deposit of coking coal in Carbon Car-bon county Is progressing in a highly satisfactory manner. The grading for the tramway from the mine to the tripple has been completed and the grading of the Carbon county railroad, a Columbia Steel subsidy, is about half finished:. The work of opening up the coal itself also is well under way. The development of the company's Iron holdings in the vicinity of Cedar Ce-dar City has not been begun, but probably pro-bably will be started in the spring. The activity in the iron fields, however, how-ever, will be governed to a considerable consider-able extent by the action of the Los Angeles & Salt Lake railroad in the construction of the branch railroad from Lund to Berve the field. |
