Show 0 WHAT A" BIGCHANGE Friday, our base ball boys went over to Beaver and got the worst beating of the season seven to twenty-two. Wasn't it awful. Nobody played ball, but nearly all played horse. Eight runs for Beaver in the first half of the first inning. T -scorekeeper finally had to get ai ding machine with which to keep tally. Our boys used up all the pitchers they had, and for fear the game would not go the full nine innings. in-nings. Biyver very kindly offered to lend our boys the pitcher, Gertie, who pitched for the girl team. This so provoked our boys that they proceeded pro-ceeded to donate more runs to their opponents. But Oh. what a difference when Beaver came down here to play the return game Sunday. The -Beaver authorities don't allow Sunday ball in that town so their players can't play ball on Sunday and the result was, they got beat to the tune of 2 to 11, and it looked in the seventh inning, when our boys scored 6 runs, as if they would have to use the girls' pitcher. Art Kinney played the star part in both games. At Beaver. Friday, he was so weak that he lost his rep. and here Sunday he was so good he won it back and then some. The foul fly he caught back of the left foul line, was one of the most brilliant bril-liant plays ever seen here. He struck out thirteen men. Beaver used three pitchers, their pitcher only lasted a part of one inning in-ning the seventh. Their regular pitcher High Speed Robinson throws a vicious ball, but it has nothing no-thing on it. He has a very peculiar wind-up and bids fair to make a good man on the mound. Behind the bat. Lynch had the best of the argument with McShane. but outside the batteries and in batting, it looked as if the Beaver boys did the best work, especially in the out-field. The work of the umpires, Des Hickman and C- F. McShane. v:-.s very satisfactory to both sides. Only On-ly twice did there appear to be any disposition to question their decisions decisi-ons once when McShane was .called out on first base on a close decision, and in not calling a balk on High-Speed. High-Speed. The gate receipts here were the largest of the season. Nearly all of Beaver was here and most of them brought their girls along. |
