At the meeting a reorganization- the company was effected. Several men representing some of the most substantial interests In this state and Idaho wore added to the list of directors and officers, while some who were formerly officials offi-cials were released. With the appointment ap-pointment of the new officials, the return of the building materials and labor market to normal, conditions and the release of freight cars for private shipments of freight, all necessary nec-essary materials have been secured for the completion of the new f-:tory f-:tory without further delay, it was reported. Reports of the activities of the company to date were presented present-ed by the "outgoing officers for ai proval. Ninety-live per cent completed and uie remainder of the machinery on uie ground that is the statement of Fred Hinez, o Burliugame, Cali., experienced sugar beet manufacturer manufactur-er and construction engineer, who has had the work of construction in charge. The report contains, statement of a competent consulting engineer who recently inspected the plant, to the "effect that, when completed, com-pleted, the new factory will be as good and as efficient as any and all plants in the state of Utah. It was pointed out that hut' forty-five days more labor will be required to finish the work of installation. Reasons for failure to operate last year as originally planned? were given giv-en by the outgoing officers. It v.. noted -that due to the delayed machinery ma-chinery shipments, a condition brought on by war demands, it was it was impossible to secure tbe few additional pieces of equipment necessary nec-essary to make the factory complete in time for the 191S beet crop. That this condition has now been remedied remedi-ed was the assurance of the officers. The report of the outgoing officers indicated that approximately $700,-0 $700,-0 it n had been spent to date in the plant, and that, purchased at the present advanced prices a factory i equal in all respects to the Gunnl-j Gunnl-j sou factory could not be duplicated . ! for less than $1. 000. 000to $1,250.-000. $1,250.-000. " I Information to the effect that, despite the inability of the Gunnison company to handle the beets contrac- ; led for in its own plant, arrangements arrange-ments were made by which it wa-no.-slMe to take the 1700 acre yield, .the :'.:'.ouut planted for the company last year, at the contract price of $10 per ton. and in turn sell them to oth-. oth-. r e.y.npr-nios at a small margin ef t i refit to themselves. This arrangement, arrange-ment, made possible by the advance in the market, protected both the growers and the company against loss. Tho capacity of the factory when 1 ready for operation Is estimated at ' 4 " 0 tons of beets in each 2 4-hour per ! iod or' operation. With few exceptions, excep-tions, the equipment is rated at 600 ton per day capacity. With an additional ad-ditional expenditure of only $50,000 new equipment can be added which will raise the capacity of the plant to the higher figure, it is said. The report of the company showed show-ed that approximately 4,000 acres of splendid beet land are already under contract for periods running from three to five years. With the approach ap-proach of the planting season and the definite assurance that the factory fac-tory will' be operated this fall, It was pointed out that this acreage is sure to be materially Increased. The plant at its present capacity can handle han-dle the beet crop from an additional 1000 acres of land, and with the additional ad-ditional 1000 acres of land, and with the additional improvements in the plant as suggested, another 1500 acre3 of beets could be handled. Thus the future of the company is promising, promis-ing, say those who are best acquainted acquaint-ed with the preposition. In addition to the splendid new building of brick and concrete re-enforced with steel which has been erected on the 3 0-acre site near Gunnison, Gun-nison, the company has built for its employees a splendid boarding house large enough for the accommodation accommoda-tion of 75 persons. The building is equipped with hot and cold water, electric lights, the tub and shower baths. A brick dwelling house for the accommodation of the superintendent superin-tendent in charge of operations ha? also been erected. The reports of the retiring officers and the industrial survey were accepted ac-cepted by the newly elected directors and expressions of optimism for the future were voiced. Recommendations Recommenda-tions for the immediate completion of the plant were considered and favorably acted upon, i . |
