Show Brazil's Anniversary. The recent celebration of the anniversary anni-versary of Brazilian independence brings to mind several interesting facts concerning this' growing nation. Brazil, wilh the exception of Cuba, is the youngest of the Latin-American republics. Unlike Cuba, however. Brazil enjoyed independence long before be-fore the change of government came. Again, most unlike its sister republics of Spanish America, Brazil effected the radical change without bloodshed. Dimi Pedro was a wise, as well as a lovalde, monarch ; when he saw that the majority opinion favored a republican repub-lican form of administration, he graciously gra-ciously abdicated and retired from public life. If only certain European nmnnrchs had possessed similar fore-s:gbt fore-s:gbt and common sense but a few years ago ! |
