When he was twenty he began studying law. At that time he could not write. But he continued to study law and Latin and at the end of four years was admitted admit-ted to the bar. His studies led him into economics and among other things he became greatly interested in the study of wires and he learned all he could of them both of Europe and this country, and began to work for the federal control of wire systems. sys-tems.
