Show THANKSGIVING ANDJOLDIER Not a single American who sat down tohis Thanksgiving dinner but will think of the brave Utha boyswho are far from their homes and cannot eujoy their annual "feed" with those whom they love. Their places are missed, but they are not forgotten. Truly, this year we have reason to be more than thankful, and that the boys should be remembered by more than ju t a passing thought has been in the minds of many, and therefore there-fore the News is very glad to print the following communication, which is indeed timely: Editor of the News: In all the history of the world. America has never had such reason to be thankful as this year. The glorious ending of the world war, long before most of us had figured 'it would end, is certainly cause for Thanksgiving. The credit for the ending of the war must be given to the boys who went across, left homes and firesides, all the comforts of a normal life, to face death in its most terrible forms, and enduring privations of which' we at home know nothing of. We can be thankful, but why not show this thankfulness in a way more substantial than just by words? True, wo can be thankful, in our 'hearts, but that is hot really helpinT the boys, or showing them that we are really and truly thankful. I have noticed in the News that we are behind In our pledges, for W. S. S., and the thought occurred t me. how better could we prove ou-thankfulness ou-thankfulness than by keeping our nledge right now, during- this Tham---giving seasan. and not only t enough W. S..S. to keep our pledTO" but an extra one or two on ton of that. Can you. or anyone, tell me of a better way to show the boys we mean : business, and appreciate what they have done? What glorious news It would he to send forth that we had redeemed n r W. S. S. pledges as a Thanksgiving Offering for the boys. ' Yours sincerely, GEORGE JEFFF""" |
