Show : MINERSVILLE HOLDS PATRIOTIC FOURTH The Fourth of July celebration at Minorsville was very patriotic and a great success, especially in financing the Red Cross. The program given at 11 a. m. was well rendered and was given in the open air in the park, a large number num-ber being in attendance. J. S. Mur-dock Mur-dock was marshal of the day. Fred R. Pryor gave a very patriotic and .interesting address. A great number num-ber of musical selections were Edven by local talent which greatly pleased the crowd. One of the numbers wan the "Star-Spangled Banner." sung by Barlow Ferguson. ! Several things were done for tho purpose of raising money for the Red Cross. A sheep was given the society by.Tus. Gillins which brought in cash $04.50. this being won by Lester Carter, but Mr. Carter did not desire to give it back to the Red Crwss or perhaps it would have brought more. A steer was given the Red Cross by H.'C. Eyre, which brought in $125. It was won by Geo. Marshall. Jr.. who gave it bac'-r to the Red Cross with instructiom- U dui iniii il iu inu iiiii'., em- : der. Mr. Marshall bought it in at $10. making it bring a total of Mrs. Nellie Osborne, a constant Red Cross worker, made and gave to the i Red Cross a beautiful table runner. I which brought in $30. i The Mothers' Club served luiiciii's I and ice cream (hiring the day nil!: turned in to the Red Cross their profits of around $S0. In th" even-ling even-ling during the dance the Fourth of j July committee sold ice cream whicn , brought in a nice sum. j Altogether the proceeds for the : day which were turned over to the I Red Cross totaled more than $400. a nice sum for a town the size of Mln- ersvillp anil which nhnws that the people are behind Uncle Sam in the great war. ! .Minorsville went over the top In the War Savings drive with more than $l,iioo to spare, and has in the neighborhood of twenty of her son. in the war. We feel proud of her record find feel confident that when wc are called on for men or money by Unrle Sam we will be readv to f- pond. |
