Show Reading the "handwriting on the wall" at every turn, the Democratic Dem-ocratic press is frantically endeavoring to turn the comparatively lew Progressives who have not, for the country's good, returned to the Republican party, against the candidacy of Mr. Hughes, by the old, dogeared dog-eared cry of "party-czarism," the "czars" being Senators Gallinger, Penrose, Warren, Nelson, Dupont, Lodge, Clark, McCumber, Townsend, Sutherland, Smoot, et al. Tne idea, as dolefully predicted by the Democratic paprs, seem to be that these "czars", will "hog it all," when it cornea to committee and other appointments, leaving the poor, deluded Progressives Prog-ressives out in the cruel cold. Inasmuch as the "insurgent Progressives" do not seems to be wanted by the Democratic party itself, when it conies to a fusion ticket in many states, especially in Utah, although their votes for Wilson would be appreciated, why is it thai our Jeffer-v Jeffer-v sonian frieuds are so solicitous as to their personal welfare? The number of Progressive Republicans who will not eventually support Mr. Hughes, is so small in proportion to the whole body of original Progressives', as to hardly be worth special anxiety on the part of the Democrats.' |
